Wedding Video: Pakistani Wedding 2011

Pakistani Wedding: Highlights 2011

Synopsis by: Jerome J.

A Pakistani couple who are living in Toronto, Canada weds and following a wedding rites in Pakistani culture.  Pakistan whose religion is Islam has a great culture and likewise very rich in customs. Weddings in this country are very much celebrated by both the families of the bride and the groom.  Different countries have different cultures but witnessing this one you would notice that basically there is a great similarity.  Although this couple and their family are living in a western country this might have some influence already on the ceremony especially on the party portion. The bride wears the purple colored and heavily embroidered dress and the groom wears the sherwani with a turban.

Mangni, is the engagement ceremony.  It is celebrated as a formal engagement of the bride and the groom to be. A small gathering of the family of the bride and groom celebrate to foster closeness to each family.  This culture is also true in the Philippines and until now being practiced. Another tradition is the Mayun, wherein the bride is not allowed to get out of their house for fifteen days and after this she is not allowed to meet the groom until the day of the wedding.  There are several other pre-wedding traditions and some are very similar to some countries.

However, this one has much western influence although the formal wedding rite called the Nikah is observed on Islamic tradition.  The wedding rite is held at the house of the bride and attended by close family members, relatives and friends.  Under their Pakistani culture the reception is allowed on another venue. The cutting of the cake, some interviews, games and the dancing takes place after the formal rites. It is observed that the groom is holding some money in his hands, it is their tradition that gifts are given in the form of cash for the married couple.

The last portion of the video shows a room  and laid with flowers all over, this is customary and is a preparation for the bride to enter the house of the groom.  The bride is led to their room accompanied by the grooms sister and female relatives and is left inside to await for the arrival of the groom. However, the contemporary Pakistani married couple is allowed to go on honeymoon on their choice of place after the wedding rites.

Wedding Videography 101

WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY 101

synopsis by: Jerome J.

Cherish the precious moments.  Yes this is the main reason why weddings are recorded either in Video or in still shots in order to treasure one of the most important events in your life.  Taking pictures or video is not only just to cover the whole event and place it on a CD or making an album. In any medium you use there is an “art” that requires you to make those moments so memorable to anybody who views it.

Take this video for example, you could appreciate and feel the excitement, the happiness and the wonderful moments being experienced by this couple through an amazing creation of this video.  Placing in the salient parts of the whole wedding event from the preparation to the formal rites and post wedding activities into one harmonious presentation would create an awesome project.

Unlike most wedding coverage wherein those taking video are just taking video of the whole event as if it was a news item recorded for broadcast.  Although some would inject some artistic effects ordinarily available on your camera or software but these of no use or have little effect on the whole video itself.  This is where craftsmanship comes in to put life on the video that you are doing. Basically you would primarily record the whole event since the whole video project would be sourced from this, however creativity should already commence during this coverage because we could not let the characters play their role again.

Now aside from the actual video shooting, it would require the videographer to actually meet with the wedding couple to discuss the whole wedding process.  This would greatly help him to plan out his video coverage.  The meeting could also be a venue for the videographer to give some of his ideas for the couple which they could include in their wedding rites. With this the videographer could make his work  much easier and leave the editing process trouble-free.

One of the most vital things that a videographer should remember is to put in uniqueness on each project that he does.  Weddings are kind of personal events that reflect the couple’s personality.  This should play an important aspect of the video production you have.  That is why it is imperative for the videographer to know their client.

So wedding videography is an art that requires creativeness to make the most romantic video for those who wish to take video coverage on wedding events and more so if you want to make it a hobby or a profession.

How To Shoot A Wedding Video

TIPS ON HOW TO SHOOT A WEDDING VIDEO

synopsis by: Jerome J.

Nigel Barker teaches us on How to Shoot Wedding Videos with several tips that are very crucial in getting the best wedding videos ever.  Now he points out that the wedding ceremony has two parts, the formal part which is the wedding ceremony itself and the fun part which is the reception and party portion after the wedding ceremony.

Let me illustrate the following tips:

  1. Go to the wedding rehearsal, if there is none then you have be early at the wedding venue or at the reception place.  This is to familiarize yourself with the place and so that you could plan out for yourself on where you want to be if you are covering the ceremony.
  2. Get a good quality HD video camera. Of course you want to good quality footage of all the events so you must come in prepared. It may not be of a high end video camera but you have to make sure you can get the whole event and not get problems in between the ceremony. Video cameras nowadays have large built-in hard drives of up to 16GB of space and supports wide angle lens and zoom lens. Viewing screens also have intuitive controls that you can edit along while you shoot.  Other equipment that you should readily bring are a tripod, extra battery, extension cord, extra hard drive memory, remote microphone and of course as Nigel suggests a, gift for the bride and groom.
  3. Shoot dramatic scenes as these are the most important parts of the wedding. Some suggested scenes are the entrance of the bride to the wedding venue, kissing of the couple, wedding ring and so forth and should be shot in low light so as not to distract the wedding couple.
  4. Shoot wide shots to get a full view of the wedding venue so as to give the viewer an idea on how beautiful the wedding place be and close up scenes for getting detailed images such as the wedding ring, flowers and so forth.
  5. Shoot lots of footage and lengthy scenes or as much as possible shoot the whole event. This is so because you can have many options later on when you edit the wedding.

I hope you get a lot of tips and this attached video should help you a lot on your next wedding videography coverage.

Wedding Videography: The Reception

Wedding Videography the Reception

synopsis by: Jerome J.

The second part of a wedding occasion is the fun part or the reception. This is where everybody enjoys. Here you have toasts, guest interviews, cutting of the cake, the throwing of the flowers and the dance. It is important that the videographer should be able to cover every part of the reception because these are vital events that he will compile later on for his video production.

Before anything else he needs to be early at the reception so as to be able to get coverage on the setup of the reception prior to the guests arriving to avoid any distractions and to be able to plan out his coverage. Get some close up and detailed wedding video on the flowers, tables, presents and the cake.  As the party starts, he has to make sure that he captures everybody who is having a great time.

Lighting is likewise important in this significant moment.  He has to be prepared on the correct equipment that he will be using. He has to have a dimmer abled LED light so he could be able to adjust the correct lighting and LED do not emit heat to distract the guests.

On some occasions the videographer has to take the initiative of starting an activity such as interviewing the guests. His creativity is needed here in interviewing some guests, Pose leading questions on them to answer and even asking children as well. Posing some questions such as what will they do to make each other happy?  What will they be after 10 years?

Then there is the Dancing part. It would be best if there would be two people capturing video, one video would be taking the close ups and the other for the wide footage.  This aims to be able to capture everything since there would be a lot of movement within and outside the dancing area.

Ten Steps For Shooting A Successful Wedding Video

Ten Tips for Shooting a Successful Wedding Videography

By Janilyn Mahoney

There are many tips for shooting a successful wedding videography, but we will cover the top ten.

  1. Before the event you will want to visit the location.  Make sure you check out the lighting, where the power outlets are, if there is extra audio equipment they will be using, the layout of the area and the parking facilities, to assess how to get your equipment for your shooting the wedding videography in and getting yourself out to get to the venue for the next event.
  2. Make yourself a master list so that you don’t forget things that you will need to shoot this wedding videography like a professional. Don’t try to use new equipment that you haven’t used before.
  3. When shooting the wedding videography shoot a lot!  More than you think you will ever need.  There are no “do-overs” allowed, so it is better to have too much than to miss something.
  4. The wedding videography is about the people.  Stay on your toes and video the people.  Take some footage of the surroundings, but it is really the people that are the stars of your wedding videography, so make sure that you get a lot of close-ups and distant shots as well.
  5. Wear clothing that helps you blend in.  Smile and be courteous as you move about filming the wedding videography.
  6. Make sure you know what is important to the couple so that you are sure to get those things on their wedding videography.
  7. Practice holding still so that your video won’t be shaky, also practice focusing and color balance and things that are the more technical side of the wedding videography.
  8. Decline alcohol. Any time that you spend drinking means you aren’t filming and you might miss something.  Again, there aren’t any “do overs” so you need to stay on task.
  9. It is important to remember that your video recorder also records sound.  If you stop recording mid-sentence it is okay because the pictures will probably be fine.
  10. It is best if the couple sees the finished product of the wedding videography after you have edited it if at all possible.

If these basic helps are used, you should be very successful at providing the couple a wonderful, keepsake wedding videography of their special day.

When Your Wedding Videographer Doesn’t Do This For A Living

When Your Wedding Videographer Doesn’t Do This For A Living

By Janilyn Mahoney

Before we get into the finer tips for helping your wedding videography turn out great, let’s remember the old adage, “You get what you pay for”.  If you want your wedding videography to be an award winning piece of work, then you should probably plan on paying someone.  However, with a few easy tips and reminders of things to remember you can have a beautiful wedding videography done by an amateur and save yourself a lot of money.

First it is important the reason that you are having a wedding videography in the first place.  You want a way to capture and remember the activities and emotions of the day. So, with a little planning and communication between the videographer and the couple you should be able to get the things you want on your wedding videography. For things like the bride coming up the aisle to meet the groom, the wedding party getting ready, the vows, and the newlyweds walking back down the aisle you should plan  where the best place to be to get the best video footage will be.

A good wedding videography is not all about the picture it is also important to be in a position to get good audio at important times like when the vows are said or the toasts that are given at the rehearsal dinner or endearments from parents.

Remember that while the day may be about you, a decade from now you are going to rely on your wedding videography to help you know who was there and shared that special day with you.  It will be so rewarding to see Uncle Bill and little Tommie, as they were then, especially if Uncle Bill is no longer alive. So ask your videographer to include video footage on your wedding videography of the guests and things that may be going on during the activities that you may not be a part of that you will want to remember.  Who doesn’t want to remember who decorated the get-away car? Maybe your wedding videography will be used as evidence that your little brother really was involved in that decorating party!

Why Choose Wedding Videography?

Why Choose Wedding Videography

By:Janilyn Mahoney
Getting all of the memories on a day as important as the wedding day is a very important job.   This is a very good reason to choose wedding videography. With wedding videography you are able to relive your wedding again and again. Depending on what you want you may have a video that begins when you awake and continues until the last good byes are said.

You may also choose to include other things in your wedding videography like a story about how you met or pictures of you as you were both growing up. You can include pretty much whatever you want, but the important this is to make sure that you communicate your direction and your desires of the most important things you want included in your wedding videography.  There is no way that you can predict all of the events of this special day or the emotions you will feel as the day unfolds.  That is why it is important to for the wedding videographer to get to know the couple before the wedding. Your wedding videography will be better the more comfortable and familiar the videographer is with the couple.

When you begin making your wedding plans one thing to consider when you are making choices is, how would you feel about being able to see your parents or grandparents day on a wedding videography? The day passes so quickly and there are so many things that you might not remember, and that is a very good reason to have wedding videography. Another reason is so that you can share this day with all of those who are unable to be with you on this special day. I don’t mean just the ailing grandparents, or the siblings who are in the military and couldn’t get leave time to come home, but I mean the future generations.  Wedding videography creates a way for your posterity to have a record of this special day.

Wedding Videography is really a very special gift to leave for them, that you can enjoy while you are waiting for them to appreciate it.

The Reason Wedding Videography Is So Popular

The Reason that Wedding Videography is so Popular

By Janilyn Mahoney

Until just a decade ago wedding videography was almost unheard of except for the well to do.  Now with all of the advances in the electronic field it seems that a lot more people are choosing to not only have a wedding photographer to take wedding pictures, but a videographer to do wedding videography as well.

What makes wedding videography so popular?  Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that it gives you a living history of your special day.  Photographs are beautiful and nice to have, but they can’t capture the real story either like wedding videography can.  A picture is a snap of that second in time.  It doesn’t capture the feelings or what is being said and felt at that moment.

With wedding videography you are able to capture the before and after comments of a photograph.  You can capture the laughter and the tears, you can hear the toasts and congratulations and expressions of love. With wedding videography you can relive your special day over and over.

Another thing that wedding videography is for is that it allows those who for one reason or another cannot attend to be able to “be there”. With our mobile world and busy personal lives there are many times that your loved ones can’t share this special day with you, so wedding videography is great for the ailing grandparent or soldier brother who can’t be there in person to still be able to share this time with the bride and groom.

As a couple watches the wedding videography of their wedding often they will say, “Oh, I don’t remember that!” or “Oh, that’s what was going on in that picture!” So it is fun just for the couple to watch and be able to really enjoy the little things of that day that they may have missed among all the stress and jitters.  It also helps them to feel and remember why they love that person and how they felt on that special day when things get tough, as they always seem to.  So, wedding videography can be a very beneficial thing for a couple to include when they are planning their wedding.

The Goal Of Wedding Videography

What is the Goal of Wedding Videography?

By Janilyn Mahoney

The goal of wedding videography is to create for the couple a living remembrance of their special day. Wedding videography can capture the frolic and fun of the day.  It can also capture the emotions and loving words that are spoken.

Another thing that happens is that the beautiful surroundings get into photographs, but you don’t see the wind or feel the rain, but the wind or rain can almost be felt again with wedding videography.

Some people are a little nervous about having any wedding videography done because they aren’t sure of how their guests will feel and what might actually be captured on film. They don’t want to be any more nervous or have to worry about an obnoxious cameraman.  If the cinematographer has been doing wedding videography for very long at all he will know enough to get to know the couple and what their personalities are like. He will know who to watch for and who to watch out for.  He will also know what special little behind the scene things might be going on that will be important to the couple and that they will appreciate having in their wedding videography.

An important aspect of wedding videography is when the cameraman in not intrusive, but catches the private moments that the couple will want to remember.   If the wedding videography is truly successful it will capture all of the moments that are special and be a living memorial of that very special occasion. As the years go by that wedding videography will increase in importance as memories change and life happens.

Another thing that the wedding videographer will want to keep in mind is who, other than the couple, this wedding videography might be being made for.  Is there a brother in the military that cannot attend the ceremony?  Or maybe there is an ailing grandparent.  Care should be taken to help them feel included in the day, something that the bride and groom might not think of, but would really appreciate when they look back at it.

Videography

Videography

~ Jenna Greene

At one time a portrait – oil or acrylic – was a marvellous thing. Not only was the result beautiful, but posing was less of a chore than the former popular medium, the time consuming tapestry. After the portrait came the camera, first in shades, then in colour. But now, technology has advanced past the film and digital camera. Technology is in the midst of the ‘video’ age.

Videography has expanded further with the advent of the Internet. People all around the world can use a video camera, cell phone, Ipad, or other available technology to shoot and upload film clips or quick movies. Daily anecdotes can become pop culture fodder and candid shots can develop into instant sensations. Bloggers can become stars just by recording their own thoughts.

When thinking of videography, it can mean many different things. The subject can be in movie format (telling a story), or can be more akin to a web diary. Still slideshows fall into the category of videography as well, using music to reveal a message or share information in a creative way. Web cameras can be left running long-term in order to document daily life, and this is seen as a form of videography as well. Videography can now extend into the realm of ‘reality’ tv or can make everyday artists into movie directors and producers. Wedding videography has become a prolific field, as has event videography in general. How-to videos can be quite useful, as directions can be paired with visual examples. Video conferencing can send vital information to many different people across many miles.

If you are interested in the more ‘artistic’ side of videography, hoping to create interesting and thought-provoking images (or even turn an interest into a business), there are several components you should consider.

In many ways videography is similar to photography. A lot of the concepts transfer over. When filming, as in photography, first you must choose a subject. What is your video going to be about and what makes this subject interesting? The viewpoint of the camera is also a variable, as you must decide where your subject will be and where the camera will be located. Will you shoot your subject from down low or from above? Will you shoot from far away or zoom in close to your subject? Lighting is important to consider as well, as shadows create a very different mood than a bright setting. Will natural light be used or will artificial light be provided? A photographic technique known as “the rule of thirds” (placing the subject off centre in a frame) can also be used in a video, as the placement of the subject can create a creative image or help point to the theme of a piece.

But, of course, videos incorporate things that photographic cameras can not, such as audio. Dialogue and music can be added to an image. Also, videos have the added benefit of action (characters can move!) and even special affects. Thus, videography has long-since become a better way to express ideas and themes. And again, thanks to advancing technology, it is becoming easier by the minute for more people to jump into this field.
